Sage Canyon River Company was founded by Lynn and Teresa Ewings in the early 1980s, built on a simple philosophy: provide unforgettable river adventures with exceptional service at a fair price. The company was carried forward by Pete Hattenhauer in 1994 and later by Bob Krein in 2002, each preserving the values and traditions that made Sage Canyon a favorite among generations of rafters. In 2026, Bob entrusted the company to former employees, Jeremy and Aly.
As a family-owned and locally operated business, Jeremy and Aly are committed to keeping Sage Canyon true to its roots—offering outstanding value and the personal service that has defined this company for more than 40 years.
Our Guides
A great whitewater adventure starts with a great guide. At Sage Canyon Adventures, our guides are experienced river professionals who are passionate about sharing the beauty, excitement, and history of the Deschutes River. Safety is our highest priority. Every guide is trained in river safety, rescue techniques, and first aid, and we take pride in maintaining the highest standards of professionalism on every trip. Whether you're a first-time rafter or a seasoned adventurer, you can relax knowing you're in capable hands.

Where it all starts, the shop. Sage Canyon River Company’s inviting shop is located downtown, in the heart of Maupin. Shop employees are there to greet our clients, help them get ready for the trip, outfit clients with any necessary gear, assist with photos and ice cream, and much more. This is a great opportunity for anyone looking to join the Whitewater community. Shop employees enjoy working in a fast paced environment and completing the logistical work that makes our Sage Canyon trips a step above the rest.
